Reece Ties for 4th in Final Warmup Before Region IV Tourney

Sophomore Brayden Reece (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville) tied for fourth overall to pace the Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team at the Oak Ridge Classic on Friday at Senica’s Oak Ridge.

Reece shot 37 on each side for a 2-over-par 74 that left him a stroke behind Isaac Bore and Jeffrey Perez of Black Hawk and Jack Vercautren of DuPage.

Sandburg finished sixth in the 11-team event with a 324 total. Black Hawk took the top two spots, with its Gold team shooting 300 and its Black team shooting 309. The Chargers finished nine strokes behind Lake County for fifth.

Twins Bryce and Brady Grafton (Orion, Ill./Orion) each shot 82 for Sandbur, and Grant Campbell (Earlville, Ill./Earlville) added an 86 for the Chargers’ fourth score. Matt Graves (Oneida, Ill./ROWVA) shot an 88.

The Chargers will head back to Oak Ridge for the Region IV championship Thursday-Saturday. Sandburg is looking to qualify as a team for the NJCAA Division II Championship for the second straight year. The Chargers have advanced an individual or team to nationals for six straight seasons and in 10 of the last 11 years.
